Alec Chai is a Boston-based oboist recently graduating from the Yale School of Music.

Alec studied with Stephen Taylor, where he was named a winner of the Yale School of Music Chamber Music Society Competition as well as a recipient of the YSM Alumni Association Prize. He has also appeared at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival and made his Lincoln Center debut in June 2024 as the New York Artist Guild’s inaugural Young Artist.

Alec also attended Yale University for his undergraduate studies, where he received a B.S. in Chemistry with distinction along with several university-wide awards for his contributions to the arts. In his freshman year, he became just the third oboist to be chosen as winner of the William Waite Concerto Competition and performed Bohuslav Martinů’s Oboe Concerto with the Yale Symphony Orchestra. He was previously a winner of YoungArts and represents Yamaha USA as a Yamaha Young Performing Artist.

A versatile musician across styles, genres, and instruments, Alec is also an accomplished pianist and saxophonist, with appearances including performances alongside the Grammy-Award winning Mingus Big Band.
